Salvia divinorum (AKA Diviner's Sage, Ska Pastora)
Salvia divinorum is one of about 2,000 varieties of sage.
Although Salvia divinorum has been known and used for centuries by the Mazatec Indians, the use was concentrated in a small area in the Oaxacan Mountains and wasn't known outside of its extremely limited range until a Gordon Wasson-Albert Hoffman expedition in 1962.
Salvia divinorum was highly esteemed by the Mazatecs. Salvia divinorum was believed to be a magical herb. Salvia divinorum was used for everything from healing the sick to ceremonially induced visionary states for religion.
